Chinese New Year 2020
The Year of the Rat
Chinese New Year started on the 25/1/2020 this year. It is also Vietnamese New Year (Tet). Celebrations last for 15 days ending with the beautiful lantern festival.
This year it is the Year of the Rat, the 1st animal in the Chinese Zodiac. People born in the year of the rat are clever, quick thinkers; successful, but content with living a quiet and peaceful life. They are likable by all. They make good authors, editors and artists.
Lucky things for Rats: the colours blue, gold, green and the numbers 2 and 3.
Recent years of the Rat are: 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, and 2020.
The children loved learning the story of how each year got animal names (“The Great Race”/ The Chinese Zodiac Story). We have a Chinese/Vietnamese Artefact Box and lots of displays around the school. The children have learned about Chinese New Year traditions/ clothes/ numbers/calligraphy/facts about China and Vietnam/The Great Wall of China and much more. They have even played some Chinese Games. We all love celebrating Chinese New Year in St. Cronan’s School.
Happy New Year.
