Chinese New Year 2014 – The year of the HORSE Chinese New Year started in the 31/1/14. This year is the year of the horse. Celebrations will last for 15 days. The children have been busy learning how Chinese New Year is celebrated around the world through stories, video clips, games, worksheets and art. The children had lots of fun making lanterns, horses, dragons, goldfish and kites. Some children even tried painting Chinese letters (characters). Everyone enjoyed listening to the Zodiac Story which explains how the years were named after animals. The New Year is also celebrated in Vietnam where it is called Tet. A little girl from Ms. Mc Kenna’s Class brought in lots of interesting artefacts from Vietnam to share with the class. As a lovely surprise each child in the class received a lucky red envelope with a treat inside. Good luck and prosperity to everyone for the New Year! |
