Our Themes for October are Autumn and Halloween

English

• Sammy Snake "s" and Impy Ink "i".  Revision of c a d h m t.
• Sight Words - am, a, They, go ,round, the , Goodbye
• Phonics - blending cvc words - dad, had, mad, sad, hit, sit, mam, ham, cat, mat, did.
• Nursery Rhymes:  Hickory Dickory Dock, Hey Diddle Diddle

Maths

• Colours - purple and black
• Counting games - counting up and back from 10, counting object up to 10
• Patterns - 2 step colour patterns.  Eg: yellow, red, yellow, red
• Sorting - sorting objects into clearly defined sets.  Eg: things that have holes/ don't have holes, things with legs/ no legs, blue things and yellow things.  Sorting by size
• Number rhymes - 5 little squirrels

Gaeilge:

• Oíche Shamhna (Hallowe'en).  Cnónna/ báirín breac/ milséain/ púca/ cailleach/ puimcín/ úlla/ oráiste (nuts/ brack/ sweets/ ghost/ witch/ pumpkin/ apple/ orange).
• Ba mhaith liom . .  (I would like), seo dhuit (here you are . . )  Go raibh maith agat (thank you)

S.E.S.E:

• History - Halloween customs, costumes and traditions
• Science/ Geography - Autumn fruit/ plants/ animals/ weather

How to help at home:

• Go over sound copy every night - try and come up with new words for letter sounds
• Practice sight words every night - new words are added every week.
• Read little books which contain sight words, talk about the pictures
  
• Practice sorting - socks/ cutlery/ toys.  Ask your child to make sets of things that belong together..
• Sing Nursery rhymes together - listen to make sure your child is saying them correctly.
• Go on nature walks looking for signs of Autumn
• Help your child to learn to write their name independently.
• Make 2 step patterns together.  Eg: knife fork, knife fork or blue block red block, blue block red block.
