Last Friday our school had the launch of the Active Flag. We all wore our dancing clothes to school and we went to the hall with the Junior and Senior Infants to do some dancing. Some of the children from 2nd class showed us games we can play to keep active and fit. We mad a poster for Ms Hourican who was taking part in Strictly St Cronans. Apologies for the blurry photos - you were all moving too fast!
On Tuesday Rebecca and Kevin, the community gardaí came to visit all the Junior Infants. They told us all about the job they do and how they keep us safe. They told us how to be safe crossing the road and what to do if we are ever lost. Garda Kevin showed us his handcuffs and his baton. We loved the visit
To help us improve our reading, writing and phonic skills we do literacy stations twice a week, Over 2 days we get a chance to try each station. As we learn new letters, words and sounds they get added to the activities. The stations include:
This month our theme in SESE is People who help us in our Community - doctor, lollipop person, firefighter, gardaa, teacher etc.. In maths we are learning all about measures and sizes - big and small, tall and short, wide and narrow and the concept of "more".
Our play areas are as follows: Role Play - Doctor's Surgery Small World - The 3 bears/ School Sand - Building site Creative - playdough/ painting Construction - Mobilo Here are some pictures from Friday. The group in the construction area built a train with seats for the passengers, a tunnel, a train station and train tracks. There were volcanos, chocolate pizzas and cement mixers in the creative area. The children in the sand built a wide road to Africa and a narrow road to Limerick. Goldilocks put baby bear in the oven but daddy bear rescued him with the key in the small world area. I was too busy being treated by the excellent receptionist and medical team in the Surgery to take any photographs but I will try to get some next week! We have been working hard at our sounds and this week we started blending. We put sounds together to make 3 letter words. On Friday we wrote some words for the very first time. Blending is a difficult skill and Mrs O'Mahoney was very proud of our efforts.
