What an exciting day we had today. Everyone dressed up including Mrs O'Mahoney! We talked about Halloween safety, especially around fireworks. We played Halloween games such as Snap Apple, marshmallow races, pin the nose on the monster and making magic potions. We carved a pumpkin and felt the gooey insides. We designed broomsticks just like in our story Room on the Broom and we drew monsters. We had a Halloween disco and some party treats. At the end of the day we watched a funnybones cartoon and brought home allour Halloween art . We even won the prize for being the best junior infants at lining up and everyone got a lollipop.
Wishing all families a happy and safe Halloween Today we visited St Cronan's church for a harvest prayer service. Fr Paul read us the gospel about the mustard seed and he talked about what plants need to grow. The Junior Infants sang the Monday Morning song from Alive-O and the Senior infants sang an Autumn song. Thank you to all the children who brought food for the Brackenstown food bank.
Today we visited the school library for the first time. Everyone chose a book and brought them to the librarians to be scanned.
Library day will be every Tuesday This week we moved on from making sets with our sorting bags to coming up with sorting rules for our sorting trees, We came up with lots of great rules - long and short, big and small, holes and no holes, hard and soft.
Some photos from this week integrated learning sessions. This week we started planning for our play in our special play copybooks, We also did lots of pair review at the end of our sessions. We had lots of fun this week, We wrote magic potions and cleaned a very muddy cat in the role play area! There were hoglets and treasure hunts in the sand area. Lots of cities were built (including a church with a steeple) in the construction area and harry hatman went to hospital and was looked after by Dr Dippy Duck in the small world area.
Four days a week Ms Hourican comes to our class and on 2 of those days we do maths stations. We do lots of counting games and this week we started to play some maths games. We are learning how to use a dice and how to take turns. Apologies for the blurry photographs - my stand-in camera is not the best!
Every Monday we do PE. On the weeks the senior school have the hall we go to the yard for our PE lesson, This week we played lots of games such as cups and saucers, shopkeeper shopkeeper and fill the box. We also did some beanbag skills - throwing and catching and balancing.
We have had a few technical problems this week (the lens on my camera broke). So here are a few of the photos I managed to salvage. We had lots of fun in Learning Through Play and did a lot of sorting of Autumn fruits and leaves
