Our Aistear theme for the last 2 weeks has been Halloween. We have been working in five different play stations. In the Role Play corner we have been making potions in the haunted house. We have been using lots of new language and talking about all the ingredients we are adding to the cauldron. We took turns being the witch and casting spells on each other! In our creative area, we have been practising our cutting and construction skills to make our own spooky skeletons! We have been working as archaeologists in the sand area. We used special brushes to excavate the site and have found lots of skeleton bones hiding in there! In the construction area, we have been working together to build haunted houses and tall towers to lock the witch in! In our other creative area, we have been working with the playdough and halloween playdough mats. We used our hands and playdough tools to make pumpkins, brooms, stars, spiders and halloween treats.
This month we have been working on making and extending patterns. We are getting really good at it, just look at these!
We have been learning all about Autumn and the changes in our environment. Last week we went on an Autumn Hunt to find some of the signs of Autumn that we had been talking about. We found lots of things on our list including, brown, yellow and orange leaves, a bare tree, conkers and berries. We are still keeping our eyes peeled for some fungi and a squirrel!!!
We have just started working at our literacy stations. There are five stations and we have important jobs to do at each one. Station 1: We match our pictures to the correct letter sounds.
Station 2: We read our words and match them to the correct pictures. Station 3: We match our magnetic letters to the correct letterlanders Station 4: We practise writing our letters. Station 5: We peg the correct picture to go with that letter sound. Have a look at us hard at work! We were lucky enough to have Paul Flynn and Darren Daly from the Dublin Senior football team, come to visit us in our school. They brought the Sam Maguire cup along for a look too!
We have been working really hard and have been making lots of sets. We are really good at making and describing rules to go with our sets. Here we are sorting and making sets from a random collection of objects within our class.
We have been learning about Danny, Zeb and their friends. We are learning to read these words:
Danny, Mum, Zeb, Emma, Josh, and, Hello, Goodbye, the We have had a great time getting to know each other and settling into school this term. Follow us here to keep an eye on what we have been getting up to.
