Halloween is in the air here in Room 2 in St. Cronan's J.N.S. The boys and girls are getting very excited about our up and coming holidays from school. On the last day before the break we all dressed up to celebrate Halloween. Ms. Mc Intyre was very impressed by all the costumes- Spiderman, Superman, Buzz Lightyear, ghosts, pirates, witches, skeletons, cats and many more. All very scary indeed! However, the boys and girls also got a shock to see that Little Red Riding Hood was teaching them for the day! See our amazing costumes above!! Have a look below to see some more pictures from the day. Ms. Mc Intyre wishes all the boys and girls a very happy and safe Halloween. See you all when we get back to school.
Today we began learning about homes. We learned about detached, semi-detached, terraced, and bungalow homes. We also discussed flats and apartments. We listened very carefully as our classmates described their homes. We are becoming very good listeners. We then carried out a cut and paste activity with pictures of homes. We had to classify them into detached, semi-detached, terraced and bungalows. It was very tricky at first but Ms. Mc Intyre told us how fabulous our work was.. We even played a guessing game where we had to describe a type of home and others had guess It was no problem for the clever boys and girls in Room 2. Be sure to ask your child and they will tell you lots about homes! See our amazing work below.
The students in Room 2 are excellent at using their Gaeilge. This week we are learning all about Oíche Shamhna. or Halloween. They have been learning the following new vocabulary- púca, puimcín, cailleach, brioscaí, cnonna, úlla dearg, milseáin, agus bairín breac.
Ask your child to sing you our song 'Oíche Shamhna'. They are all great singers.
We finished off our work on painting and printing our hedgehogs. Our work is wonderful. Some of them can be seen on the windows of our classroom. Have a look for your childs' work.
Humpy Dumpty has joined our class. He is helping us to learn our Dolch words. We learn two new words each week and when we know them, they sit with Humpty Dumpty on his word wall.
In S.P.H.E we have been discussing the names that we are called by our parents, friends and classmates. People call us different names depending on where we are. However in our class we are going to call each other by our proper name. To remind everyone we designed our own name cards and put them into our 'Art Area'. In room 2 we are kind and helpful to one another.
Autumn has come to Swords and we are noticing it everywhere! Leaves are starting to fall. We have been learning about horse chestnut trees, conkers, conker husks, acorns, berries, and hedgehogs. Take a look at our Autumn display.
Our class have been busy gathering things for our nature table. So far we have found conkers, conker husks, berries, leaves, acorns and pine cones. Well done to all the boys and girls who have been collecting them for me.
