The children have been bringing in some wonderful books about "Under the Sea". We decided to make a special class library for this topic. We talked about how we could organise them. Somebody suggested putting "real" books on one shelf and "story" books on another. So we did! Our library is now divided into fiction and non-fiction books. We sorted out the books together and had a great conversation about the different types of books. We have been using the books to find pictures and information about the underwater world. Thank you so much for lending us such lovely books!

We have been learning about the differences between sea creatures and animals which live on land. During Aistear time today some of us chose to sort out the animals in the water tray. We made a little "boat" for the animals which live on land because we thought they might not be very good at swimming! We left the sea creatures in the water where they live.
We read Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae. After the story we had some time to think about the different animals in the book. Then we shared our "wonderings". You can listen to our thoughts in the link below. If you would like to get involved in our topic you could help us investigate our wonderings at home by looking at books, pictures or videos about these animals. The children will be given lots of opportunities to share their findings with their class. Our new learning theme is "Under the Sea" Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning lots about the underwater world. We will be working on this unit during our SESE (History, Geography, Science) time and during Aistear time. If your child would like to bring in items from home linked to this topic that would be very helpful. We will keep you updated on our underwater adventures here!
Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning how to skip! We started by just twirling the rope and stepping over it. Now we are learning how to jump over the rope. We count how many skips we can do..some of us can do more than Ms Emerson! We had a skipathon in the hall for Active Week and we were brilliant! It has been great fun!
