Ronan brought in a picture of the supermoon for us to look at.
A supermoon happens every once in a while when the moon is closer to the Earth than usual.

In Science this week we are learning about the life cycle of a daffodil from a tiny seed to a full blooming flower! We watched this video on the internet to see how flowers grow and bloom. It's a time lapse video so things that take weeks or months in the real world are shown in only a few seconds! Flowers Timelapse from Katka Pruskova on Vimeo. After that we talked about the things that flowers need to grow and we played a cool game on the internet!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/7_8/plants_grow.shtml We've been learning about Hedgehogs this week and we even had a go at making our own.
Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals which means they only come out at night. They eat small insects and when they feel scared they curl up into a ball. We did an experiment to see how heating and cooling affect different materials.
We recorded how the materials had changed after cooling and then heated them up again to see if the change was reversible or not! This video tests your ability to concentrate and focus your attention on something! All you must do is count how many times the people in white t-shirts pass the basketball! Just the people in white t-shirts! Best of luck! We learned about materials that are opaque and transparent. Opaque materials don't let light pass through them and they are great for making shadow puppets!
This is a photo of the night sky over Ireland.
It shows some of the millions of stars in our galaxy. It is cool to think that each of these could be a sun just like ours for some other planet! We then talked about how big we thought the Earth, Sun and Moon were when they are compared with one another. We headed out to the yard to see if we were right!
Our new Science topic is "Magnets and Magnetism".
This week we were experimenting with different materials to see if they were attracted to the magnet. We also tried to use our magnets through different materials to see how strong they were. |
