A Rainy Day (ai, ay, a-e)

Picture
It was a rainy day. Dilly the dog was playing in the rain. She was rolling in the wet clay. She was a very muddy mess. Dilly ran into the house. She left a trail of muck on the floor. Mam went mad. 'Look at my lovely clean floor', said Mam, 'you have made a mess'. 'Get out of my house, I'm afraid I will have to put you on a chain'. Dilly's tail went down and she slid out like a snake. She did not want a chain. Dilly was very sad and she hid under a pile of hay.

Picture
Ted the cat loved to play in the rain and the hail. He had his hat, coat and wellies on. He was having lots of fun splashing in the puddles. Suddenly he heard his name, 'Ted, Ted'. 'Who is calling me' , said Ted. Dilly jumped over the gate and gave a big wet shake. 'Hi Ted', she said as she splashed him all over. 'Hey Dilly', said Ted, 'I was looking for you on Friday and Saturday'. 'Oh', said Dilly, I was on a great adventure'. 'I found a magic lane'. 'It is beside the old lake at the railway. Would you like to come with me?'

Picture
'I will go and ask my Mam', said Ted. 'I cannot stay long', said Ted, I cannot come home late'. Ted and Dilly went to the magic lane and Dilly said the magic words 3 times. 'Snake, cake on a plate, snail trail go to jail, brave, wave, where's my cave?' Suddenly a big cave opened up and a tiny little pink crayon came out. 'Hello Dilly', he said. 'I see you have a brave pal with you', said the crayon. 'Come in'. A tiny little plane came swaying down and landed beside them. 'Hop on and play a game of jumping the waves', said the plane. 'What sort of a game is that', said Ted. 'Wait and see', said Dilly. Suddenly big snakes made big waves and the plane jumped over them. 'That was fun', said Ted, what next?' 'You get to bake a cake of snails, clay and tails', said Dilly. 'Mmmmmm', said Ted, 'this is a lovely cake'. 'Time to go', said the pink crayon, you can come back on Thursday if you like'. 'Super' said Ted, 'and I will bring some of my friends with me'. 'I wonder who I will bring?'
