LETTER 5 FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL: 19/10/2020

Dear Parents,

It is wonderful to have successfully reopened the school for almost 2 months! I cannot thank enough the wonderful pupils, staff, parents and whole school community of St. Cronan`s Junior School. Together we are doing great in keeping our school open. As a strong team I hope that we will continue to do our best in tackling COVID 19 in line with HSE Guidelines.
A few updates:
  • There are no countries presently on the “Green List” so if travelling please be aware of quarantining when home.
  • Seesaw: If any parent has not yet signed up to Seesaw and would like help doing so please contact us by phone or email and a teacher will get back to you!
  • Homework: The teachers are gradually putting work/activities up on Seesaw for revision of work being done in class. This will also keep parents updated on topics/skills and strategies being taught. No copies/paperwork to be sent in and out of school for the moment - work completed can be uploaded to Seesaw but will not be corrected by teacher as Homework is revision of work done in class. Homework for all classes will be from after the midterm break !
  • All teachers assess a pupil`s attainment through class work and a mixture of diagnostic tests, standardised tests and observation.
  • All classes have beautiful pupil`s Art work which we would like for them to proudly bring home. In order to do this safely we are suggesting that we bag the Art work …and when it arrives home it can be left sit for 72 hours before proudly displaying! The timeframe for the art work being sent home is a day during the week before our midterm break.
  • In the present circumstances it will not be possible to have our normal parent/teacher meetings in November. They will be deferred for the moment and the situation reviewed in January 2021.
  • Halloween Dress Up is allowed on Friday 23rd October 2020 but NO items in the hands e.g. swords/lanterns etc. Halloween clothes only are permitted.
  • At any stage if a parent has a concern about a pupil please email or ring the school and the teacher will make contact.
Wishing you all good health and a lovely midterm break!
Edel Moloney
Principal

LETTER 4 FROM the SCHOOL PRINCIPAL: 11/09/2020

Dear Parents,
Thank you all for your tremendous support in the very successful reopening of our school. Our staggered start times are now reduced again to the following:
First and Second Classes: 9 a.m.
Senior Infants: 9.10 a.m.
Junior Infants: 9.20 a.m.
The above time will remain in place as long as COVID-19 exists!
Finish times remain as they have always been:
First and Second Classes: 2.40 p.m.
Junior and Senior Infants: 1.40 p.m.
All of our other practices as part of our covid reponse plan and our logistics plan remain in place.

Seesaw
As we are starting a new school year we are issuing new codes to all those already signed up for Seesaw (the online learning app). For those who wish to join for the first time, including our new junior infants, please complete the Seesaw google application form on our school website. Scroll down on our opening page and you will find the “NB Permission Slip for Seesaw – just click on “Principals Message”, scroll down under the letter and you will find the Seesaw Form!
All new codes, once generated, will be sent by text to the parent listed in our records as the first guardian. Once you receive the code by text then…..
New Users:
Download the “Seesaw Class” app from Apple store Google Play etc...
You will be asked to enter a “TEXT CODE”. Enter the code that was provided by the school.
Existing Users:
Tap the icon in the top left hand corner of the “Seesaw Class” app.
Sign out of the app
Close the app
Reopen the app
You will be asked to enter a “TEXT CODE”. Enter the code that was provided by the school.
Please do join as it is a great way to keep informed as to class activities and also a way of communicating with the class teacher. Should any class or classes have to restrict movements or pupils isolate, according to HSE advice, Seesaw is the online forum that the teachers will use to set activities for the class or pupil.
Stay healthy!

Letter 2 from the school principal:

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Hello to all of our school community and a big thank you for all your support to date – it truly is appreciated.
We are still extremely busy preparing our school to reopen and would like to give you a few more updates!

Starting back date: We are still on track to open on Thursday August 27th `20!
Books: Any parent that applied for books through the necessitous book grant will NOT have to collect the books prior to school opening. The books for your child will be in their classroom for them on their first day of school.

Staggered times cannot be avoided with a school population of over 600 people including pupils and staff. Any year group that have staggered times are for the first few weeks and will be reviewed if everything is going smoothly – we do need your co-operation in this and know that everyone is anxious for a little “normality” regarding schooling. However as you have all been hearing from NPHET this week we all need to maintain social distancing to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Remember: NO Parents allowed in the building – pupils and staff only. Access to the school will be by appointment only in exceptional circumstances. Parents/Guardians can communicate with us by phone and/or school email.
Parents are permitted in the yard for the pupils lining up in the morning and to collect those exiting at the end of the school day.
Timetable for the entry and exit of our pupils in a safe manner is below.
Text: A reminder text of this timetable will be sent to every class next week.

Second Classes:
Start time: 9 a.m.
Home time: 2.40 p.m.
Room 1A Ms Shovlin`s, Room 2A Ms Hanratty`s and Room 3A Mr Bailey`s line up outside their exit classroom door (on the green area parallel to the Brackenstown Road)
Room 19 Mrs Kelly`s/Ms McSweeney`s (Shared teaching) and Room 20 Mrs Rooney`s line up in the yard at their room number which is painted on the ground in the yard at school start and at the end of the day they can be collected from the yard.

ASD Unit
Start time: 9 a.m.
Home Time: 1.40 or 2.40 depending on year group.
Rooms 4A Alan Muldoon and Alison Downes (teachers) and 6A Clodagh Manton and Elaine O`Brien (teaachers) enter and exit the building through their exit classroom door.

First Classes:
Start Time: 9a.m.
Home Time: 2.40 p.m.
Room 11 Mrs Mather, Room 12 Teacher to be confirmed as the originally designated teacher will be out on leave (interviews this week so we will confirm next week), Room 13 Ms Duffy, Room 14 Mrs Hogan (previously Ms Dempsey)/Mrs Moore (Shared teaching) and Room 15 Ms Ryan`s will all line up in the yard at their room number which is painted on the ground in the yard at school start and at the end of the day they can be collected from the yard except for room 14 who will exit the building at home time from the school entrance door 2 nearest to BASE and Room 15 who will exit through the main door at the secretary`s office.

Senior Infants
Start time: 9.15 a.m.
Home Time: 1.40 p.m.
Room 3 Mr McHugh, Room 4 Ms Hargadon, Room 9 Ms Wall, Room 10 Mrs O`Neill, and Room 16 Mr Farrell all line up in the yard at their room number which is painted on the ground in the yard and at the end of the day they can be collected from the yard except for room 16 who will exit the building at home time from the school entrance door 2 nearest to BASE.
As there will be other classes in the yard at 9 a.m. we need to stagger this opening time for the Senior Infants by 15 minutes – please do not allow the pupils into the yard until the classes before them have entered the school building.

Junior Infants
It is our hope to have 3 year groups in the building – approximately 400 pupils – before the Junior Infants arrive. This will allow for a much quieter entry and exit, avoid a mass gathering outside the school and allow staff to be available to help transition the Junior Infants into school.
We are extremely mindful that it is their first day! We would normally have had 2 opportunities for them to visit the school – School Open Day and Meet the Teacher Day!
We know that there will be anxiety and some tears so we need to have staff available to help and therefore we are staggering the Junior Infant Classes until they are settled. This will be reviewed after the first 7 school days.
For 2 classes:  Room 1 Mrs Conaty and Room 8 Ms Costello
Start time will be 9.30 a.m.
Home Time: 12
The pupils in Room 1 Mrs Conaty`s will enter and exit through their own exit classroom door (Near BASE).
The pupils in Room 8 Ms Costello will enter and exit through the main door at the secretary`s office.

For 2 classes:  Room 2 Teacher to be confirmed as originally designated teacher will be out on leave (interviews this week so we will confirm next week), and Room 7 Mrs Ennis
Start Time 10a.m.
Home Time: 12. 30
The pupils in Room 2, Teacher to be decided, will enter and exit through their own exit classroom door (Near BASE).
The pupils in Room 7 Mrs Ennis will enter and exit through the door 1 opposite the church door near the corner of the school building facing out into the car park.
For 2 classes: Room 5 Ms Sherlock and Room 6 Ms Quinn
Start Time: 10.30 a.m.
Home Time: 1 p.m.
The pupils in Room 5 Ms Sherlock`s will enter and exit through their own exit classroom door (Near main door).
The pupils in Room 6 Ms Quinn will enter and exit through their own exit classroom door opposite the church door facing out onto the car park.
Important Reminder:
While all children will be welcome back to school, we would remind parents that, where children are displaying colds, coughs or flu like symptoms, they should not be sent to school.  Children who display such symptoms in school will be isolated and parents asked to collect them from the school.

Children who have travelled from countries not on the Green List should not attend school during the 14-day self-isolation period.

Further information on COVID-19 symptoms in children is available at: -
https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/if-your-child-has-symptoms.html

Let us all work together for a safe return to school!

Letter 1 from the school principal:

Dear Parent / Guardian,
RE: Re-opening of St. Cronans Junior National School

I hope you and your families are keeping well.
As you are aware, our school has now been closed since 12th March due to the COVID-19 situation.  We are now hoping to re-open our school safely, in line with current guidance and recommendations.
Re-opening the school safely will require the co-operation of all members of our School Community – BoM, School Leadership, Staff, Parents and Pupils. We will all be called on to play our part in ensuring that re-opening of the school is done in a safe manner which prevents the spread of the virus and allows the vital work of Teaching and Learning to proceed with as little disruption as possible.
We have been working on our plan for the safe reopening of the school for some weeks now and here is a link https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/a128d-back-to-school/?referrer=http://www.gov.ie/backtoschool/ to the DES COVID-19 Response Plan for the safe and sustainable reopening of Primary and Special Schools on our school website.
Please note the following for our school:
  • No parents will have access to the school building – pupils and staff only in the school.
  • Staggered opening and closing times will be to ensure the safe entry and exit of our pupils. Timetable will be on the website on Thursday.
  • Hand sanitiser and soap are available in the school. No child should have their own –this is in line with DES guidelines on the reopening of schools.
  • Uniform policy remains – NPHET have stated that pupils do not need to change their clothes each day.
  • Homework: There will only be homework through the online portal of “Seesaw”. No homework pages or copies will be sent home.
  • All pupils books to be kept in school.
  • Each child to have their own lunch box as usual which will need thorough cleaning after school each day.
  • While all children will be welcome back to school, we would remind parents that, where children are displaying colds, coughs or flu like symptoms, they should not be sent to school.  Children who display such symptoms in school will be isolated and parents asked to collect them from the school.
Children who have travelled from countries not on the Green List should not attend school during the 14-day self-isolation period
Further information on COVID-19 symptoms in children is available at: -
https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/if-your-child-has-symptoms.html

We are really looking forward to welcoming our children back to school and will be doing all that we can to ensure that the return to school is a safe and enjoyable experience for the children. We will be in touch with you again later in the week through the school website.

Thank you all for your continued support,
