So many fantastic costumes on friday. well done everyone. a great fundraiser for the parents associationMaths Weeks November 7th – 18th 2016
Lots of fun was had by all over the past 2 weeks playing maths games, going on maths trails and partaking in maths activities. The children problem solved and discovered many new facts and concepts. The children really enjoyed themselves while learning so much at the same time. The highlight of Maths Weeks was our Maths Art Display Competition. Each and every one of the children can be proud of their paintings, drawings, prints and constructions. The classrooms and corridors were so bright and colourful with lots of art incorporating, shape, line, number, angles, pattern, symmetry and tessellations. Some famous artists such as Paul Klee, Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian used shape and line in interesting ways. Some classes were inspired by these artists. We were all bowled over by the creativity and enthusiasm. It was extremely difficult to choose just one winner from each year group as the standard was so high and each class put in so much time and effort. However here are the final results: Junior Infants: Ms. Moore’s Class, Room 2A Senior Infants: Ms. Mather’s Class, Room 8. First Class: Ms. Sherlock’s Class, Room 15. Second Class: Joint Winners Ms. Duignan’s Room 11 and Ms. Flood’s Class Room 12. Congratulations to these classes and everyone who participated. You are all winners in our eyes!! Make sure to check out the photos showing the children’s Marvellous Maths Art! Ms. Hourican Euro 2016 Celebrations.
We started celebrating the Euro 2016 Football Tournament on the 10/6/16. Children coloured in pictures, painted flags, designed football kits, made hats, completed word searches, did football sums and lots more. They learned about France and the flags and kits of the participating countries. We also had a T shirt day where the children wore T shirts representing different countries. The highlight of the celebrations was the “Design a flag for the Euros” Competition. The children had to design a flag for any participating country of their choice. The children showed such enthusiasm and creativity. Two entries from each class made it through to the finals. We were so impressed by the high standard and it was really difficult to choose a winner for each year group. Here are the results: Winner Junior Infants: Ali Stanley Winner Senior Infants: Isabelle Mc Entee Winner First Class: Kian Donnelly Winner Second Class: Rhys O’Hara Well done to everyone who participated! Enjoy the rest of the Euros! Look at the photos to see all the finalists flags! |
