We were learning about the needs of a plant. A seed needs soil, water, air, light and space to grow. We decided to conduct an experiment ... We sowed cress seeds and omitted one need in each pot to see if the theory is correct. We had some surprising results! The cress seeds that we put in a zip lock bag grew the best! The children figured out that air must have gone into the bag each time we watered it and it ended up acting like a greenhouse. Science is very interesting!
This week we planted nasturium seeds. We put compost in a pot, made a little hole in the compost, planted the seed and covered it with compost again. It is the team leader's job to water the pots each day. We can't wait to see what colour flowers will blossom! We looked at two spring paintings and discussed the colours, the subjects the brush strokes. Then the children decided what signs of spring they wanted to paint. Their paintings are beautiful! There is a lot of talent in room 16. The children brought in their favourite books for World Book Day. It was very interesting to see and hear about such a wide variety of books from fairy tales to factual books. We have been learning all about spring. We went on a nature walk to look for signs of spring such as daffodils, green leaves, buds and crocus flowers. Well done to Ryan who won Gaelgeoir na Seachtaine! Congratulations to Emanuels for winning the neat handwriting certificate! Finally well done to all the children on winning the Star Class award for having the best line in the yard all week! Once upon a time a Mammy was baking gingerbread men with her two children. They put all the ingredients into a bowl and used an electric mixer to mix it. The mixer made the sound er,er,er.
