We have been learning all about how to keep safe when crossing the road and near traffic/ These are the main road safety rules we learned:
Always look for a safe place to cross - straight road, no traffic coming and if possible at a pedestrian or zebra crossing.
Look left, right and left again.
Never cross a road on your own.
Walk, don't run
We also talked about how important it is to wear bright clothing when out and about - especially when it is dark.
Today we went on Road Safety Walk with our hi-vis jackets. We sang the safe cross code song and made a road safety collage
Our theme this month is Jobs and People Who Help Us. Our Role-Play area is a Doctor Surgery and we have a building site in the Sand. Our Small World Area is Goldilocks and the Three Bears to tie in with our maths work on sizes. The Construction Area has blocks and car mats and transport so we have lots of train drivers and pilots in the making.
We drew pictures of what we wanted to be when we grow up.
On Friday we did some Yoga as we didn't get out to yard.
We finished off the week with some musical instruments. The children were excellent at keeping a beat to our songs "Miss Polly" and "Down by the Station".
Our theme at the moment is Bia (food). We are becoming very good Gaeilgeoirí. Yesterday we played Bingo to practice some of our vocab. We played in pairs and it was lots of fun!
Now that we know so many sight words we are working on making and reading sentences. You can practice this skill at home using the words in your word bag. We have also begun to blend simple 3 letter words. This is a difficult skill to master and takes a lot of time. Some children are not ready for this step yet so don't worry if your child struggles with it.
