Well done to all the girls and boys from Room 5 for their fabulous performance on stage today. They sang and danced really well even though some children were a little bit nervous! Below is a video of two of our songs - The Dancing Christmas Tree and He'll be coming down the chimney... (the video takes a while to load- pause it and go and make a cup of tea!)
Happy Christmas to all our families and friends!!!
Today five firefighters came to visit Junior Infants! They showed us their special equipment including their helmets, jackets, trousers, boots and walkie-talkies. Some children were allowed to try on their uniforms. The firefighters talked to us about fire safety and we practised the Stop, Drop and Roll technique. They reminded everyone that the most important thing to do if there is a fire in your house is to GET OUT and then ring 999 or 112. Three lucky children were even picked to go and look at the fire engine before the firefighters had to rush off back to work.
This week we learned all about how to cross the road safely. Everybody got a high visibility vest and we went on a walk to find a zebra crossing, traffic lights and to see where the lollipop lady stands. Here is a link to the Safe Cross Code song on youtube.
Every Friday we get a tray of fresh fruit to eat. This week we had apples, grapes, satsumas, kiwis, nectarines and strawberries. The strawberries were our favourite!
We have been revising all of our reader words this week. We played Match the Pairs, Go Fish and Switch with the pictures and words.
On Friday afternoon we have Golden Time. Golden Time is a special half hour when we are allowed to play with anything we want in the room. This is what we got up to this week.
Here is a video of us singing The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow. Miss Dempsey forgot to focus the camera so it's a bit blurry but hopefully you'll enjoy it anyway!
On Friday we all dressed up for Hallowe'en! Well done to everybody for putting so much effort into their costumes! You all looked great! We played lots of games like 'Bobbing for Apples', 'Mountain of Flour', 'Musical Statues' and 'Musical Bumps'. We watched a Hallowe'en cartoon called 'Meg and Mog' while eating chocolate apples and we did our favourite Hallowe'en dance, the Skeleton Dance. Here is a link to the Skeleton Dance on Youtube.
Autumn hedgehogs made from clay and match sticks.
Autumn tree paintings and Hallowe'en crayon and paint bats.
We made a scary witch using a mask, a hat and a dress. We stuffed them with cushions to make them look like a real witch. We move our pretend witch around the room to try to scare all the teachers!
Here is our pretend witch reading 'Winnie the Witch'.
We have been learning Hallowe'en words in Irish this week. We know cailleach (witch), púca (ghost), sciathán (bat), puimcín (pumpkin), báirín breac (barn brack cake), úlla (apples), oráistí (oranges), cnónna (nuts), milseáin (sweets).
This week was Maths Week in our school. We went on a maths trail aaround the school grounds. We had to find 9 different examples of maths in our environment. In this picture we had just found a circle in the yard.
We found circles, squares, cones, triangles and lots more in the school garden and the school yard.
