We collected our 2nd flag in Croke Park in 2010. As soon as we collected the flag the committee were anxious to start working on our 3rd flag. The theme for the flag is: water. We must continue to reduce our litter and waste, keep our energy use down and now start to reduce the amount of water the school uses.
We began working on the water theme in September 2010.
Our new committee took over in September 2012. They were all given a special green school’s badge. The committee is made up of 2 children from each 1st and 2nd class. After Christmas we will invite senior infants to join the committee. Mrs. Blake is the Green Schools co-ordinator. Here is the committee:
Our first job was to do an environmental review. We counted the number of taps and toilets in the school. We marked the location of them all on a map of the school.
We designed an action plan to help the school use less water. Here is our action plan:

As part of our action plans we hung up lots of posters saying “Go slow on the H20”.

The children from Mr. Hogan’s class worked as water detectives. Every day they check for leaky taps.

We monitored our water use every week by reading the water meter.
Lots of the classes did work about saving water, making fish, explorers who travelled on the water, the water cycle and science experiments with water.

We sent home a list of “Tap Tips” to help people save water at home. We make weekly green school announcements on the school intercom. We regularly change the Green School’s Noticeboard.

Our water action day will be held on Friday 12th October. All the children will be wearing blue and taking part in fun activities during the day.
Our water action code is:
Hey you, stop and think,
turn off every sink
Check the shower every hour,
You know that you have got the POWER!

We are still working on our litter and waste and energy theme. We have a recycling centre in the school to recycle:
· Batteries
· Ink cartridges
· Stamps
· Mobile phones
The energy detectives and litter and waste wardens check the corridors and yard every day.
We are applying for our water flag soon. If we are lucky enough to get it the theme for flag 4 is transport.

We are very proud to be flying our second green flag (energy). In order to achieve this award we have been:
1. Turning off lights when not needed.
2. Closing doors to keep the heat in.
3. Turning off interactive boards.
Check out our photos. We even had a garden competition to celebrate our second green flag.
